Canoes Plus Racing Team was started 45 years ago to develop elite sport in Victoria. Since then the Club has grown in Canoe Polo, Slalom, Dragon Boat and many, many, more disciplines. Our mission is to develop canoeing and kayaking as a healthy sport and recreational activity for young and old, and to develop pathways for the sport in elite streams, coaching and instruction, and Now a dedicated “family Program”.
Our Club offers not only the “Elite Stream” for athletes aiming for the top end of competition, but also a family oriented approach dedicated to those simply wanting to upgrade skills, run rivers and have fun. Both the “Elite Stream” and “Family” follow some of the same pathways, including access to other opportunities including the ability to gain instructional or coaching qualifications, or access key trainers for areas such as freestyle, or extreme racing.
We have been helping athletes for many years and in the Elite Stream, are now offering more opportunities for younger paddlers. Our approach is to develop the overall athlete with not only high end sport training and coaching, but also nutrition, sports psychology, strength and conditioning, education, public speaking and time management. Our Elite Stream program is recognized as the leader in the provision of sports services for Kayak and Canoe Competition; and provides an environment in which talented athletes from Victoria receive support enabling them to achieve the highest level in sport and in life.
Athletes will be required to exhibit a willingness to train and compete in all aspects of the sport in order to broaden their base and knowledge. The Program to be implemented will aim to produce all-around athletes with high fitness, love of the sport and good sportsmanship.
Our Family Program offers some of the same opportunities including technical coaching, access to lectures on sports nutrition and psychology, strength and so on depending on interest. We offer family oriented play and paddle days, river trips, and camp outs.
